Gildredge House, a free school due to be set up in Eastbourne, is now recruiting staff.

Following the appointment of headteacher Lea Gilbert (pictured), the steering group of the school is now looking for talented teachers to work at the old Dental Board site in Old Town.

Ms Gilbert said, “Gildredge House will be a school that expects excellence, rewards hard work and encourages a zest for life, learning and success.

“Only outstanding will do, for every student, for the staff and for the school.

“As such, we have developed a recruitment strategy that allows us to aim for the very best from day one.”

First they will appoint an deputy head and assistant head/director of the lower school.

They will have particular responsibility for establishing the new Year Seven and Reception and will manage the organisation of the primary and secondary phases as the school starts to grow.

Gildredge House will also look to appoint heads of science, mathematics and English, as well as teachers in charge of sport and performing arts.

Mrs Gilbert herself will teach Latin for six periods per week, which is her particular specialism, and it is the school’s aim that no pupil is taught by a non-specialist or by a teacher that has not attained qualified teacher status.

A spokesperson from Gildredge House said the school has been encouraged by the huge amount of interest from teachers and they are confident that they will be spoilt for choice when it comes to recruiting excellent staff.

All interviews, which will be conducted by Mrs Gilbert and the governors, are overseen by a Department of Education adviser to ensure that they recruit the best staff to deliver their vision.

Mrs Gilbert said, “We aim to be outstanding from the start and have every intention of engaging the most highly qualified staff right across the school – in teaching and all aspects of support.”

All remaining teaching and non-teaching posts will be advertised from spring 2013.

Prospective parents and carers of children due to start Reception in September 2013 are also being invited to an open day tomorrow at the school’s site in Compton Place Road.

Mrs Gilbert’s address will take place at 10am, followed by an opportunity to tour the site and talk with the head and the governors. There is no need to book a place.
