Crowds gathered at the town’s war memorial on Sunday (October 28) to witness Eastbourne mayor Councillor Mike Thompson unveil a new plaque honouring those lost in wars and conflicts since 1945.

Members of the Armed Forces, local councillors and dignitaries joined onlookers as the mayor revealed the new plaque at the memorial statue at 11am.

Speeches were given by Councillor Steve Wallis, whose idea it was for the new plaque, Eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd and the mayor of Eastbourne.

Cllr Wallis said, “The Eastbourne war memorial was erected in 1920 to remember those lost from the town in the great war, an additional plaque was added later to remember those lost during World War Two, and from now on we will also be remembering and honouring those lost since 1945.”
