St Anthony’s Post Office in Eastbourne has re-opened after a facelift.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was performed by Stephen Lloyd MP last Friday to mark the occasion and to celebrate the launch of the new style branch run by Subpostmaster Mike Ball.
Stephen Lloyd said, “I am delighted to be opening this newly-refurbished post office. It looks modern, spacious and professional. This post office is vital to the local community and I am confident the improvements will be warmly welcomed by my constituents. The open-plan counters are friendlier and it is easier for people to communicate.”
St Anthony’s Post Office has four serving positions – two open-plan and two screened counter positions.
Subpostmaster Mike Ball said, “The branch now looks great. It looks light, airy and more professional. Customers and staff are really impressed. The office now looks more welcoming. The open-counters makes it far easier for staff and customers to talk, which is very important as we have lots of elderly customers and often their hearing is not as good as it used to be.
“We are also now open longer on Saturday afternoon and customers can do their transactions then.”
The new opening times are Monday to Friday from 8am-6pm and Saturday from 8am 5.30pm. Post Office customers will benefit from opening hours being extended by 3.5 hours a week as St Anthony’s Post Office is now open longer hours on Saturday afternoon.
The refurbishment of St Anthony’s Post Office is part of a major modernisation programme across the Post Office network designed to make it easier for customers to do business, through longer opening hours and modern open plan.
Senior Post Office officials said the opening marked an exciting time as some 6,000 branches will be converted into modern ones.
