Eastbourne’s brand-spanking new £2.7million lifeboat will arrive in town at around 3pm this afternoon (Tuesday, May 29).
The new boat had to undergo last minute electronic work in Poole yesterday before setting sail for first Newhaven and then Eastbourne.
It has been pencilled in for a 3pm arrival, with RNLI volunteers hoping locals will turn up to welcome the new boat, which has been called Diamond Jubilee.
Bob Jeffery from the Eastbourne’s RNLI team said it was an occasion worth marking.
He said, “The new generation of Tamar lifeboats have a life span of about 50 years, so this really is a once in a lifetime event.
“We hope as many people as possible will come down to welcome the new boat in to the lock. It will be a very exciting day.”
