The problem of cars parking on grass verges in roads around Eastbourne Crematorium could be alleviated after plans for a new lay-by were given the green light.
East Sussex County Council has agreed to meet some of the cost of the new facility following lobbying from the area’s borough and county councillor Alan Shuttleworth.
The lay-by will be in Hide Hollow outside the Crem and observers say they hope it will resolve the long standing problem of unsightly grass verges which are churned up by cars.
“The grass verges outside Eastbourne crematorium have often been in a terrible state,” said Councillor Shuttleworth, the Liberal Democrat councillor for Langney.
“It is clearly a sensitive area, and it is long overdue to resolve this problem. I am pleased East Sussex County Council has agreed to match the funding from Eastbourne Borough Council so that the work can be done this financial year.”
Eastbourne Borough Council leader David Tutt said, “This is a much needed improvement which will certainly help with the parking situation at the crematorium. Eastbourne council has made funds available to jointly fund the work.”
Approval was given on Monday.
