New home for stone lions?

FOUR statues of lions which had to be removed from a country road because of a planning blunder appear to have found a new home.

The lions were last night due to be granted permission to take up residence on the roundabout by the Sovereign Centre.

The statues belong to Sheikh Abid Gulzar, who owns the Lions Hotel Group.

They had previously adorned the entrance to his farm on the Wartling Road but had to be removed because they didn’t have planning permission and weren’t granted it on appeal.

The hotelier wants to place the lions on the roundabout on the junctions of Royal Parade, Prince William Parade, Wartling Road and Lottbridge Drove as part of a sponsorship scheme.

Eastbourne Borough Council’s planning officer Jane Sabin said, “The statues are of such a size, in comparison to the overall size of the roundabout that they would not stand out as strident or obtrusive features.”
