SHOPPERS in Eastbourne will be able to find out what is going on in the town on any given day thanks to a new digital screen at the entrance to the Arndale Centre.

The display, which was unveiled this week, will show lists of events happening throughout the summer and passers-by will be able to interact with it by using an app on their smartphones. By scanning barcodes on the screen they will be shown offers in local shops and told whether there are any special events taking place that day.

Housed in the window of the former Sussex Stationers unit, the programme will run throughout the summer and is the brainchild of local high-tech firm iS-digital and Eastbourne Can – a local website dedicated to helping businesses across the area.

Will Callaghan, the man behind Eastbourne Can, said, “Eastbourne has hundreds of fantastic events each year, but people tell us they struggle to find out what’s happening.

“The smart signage project will mean that everyone will hear about great events whether they are online or not.”
