A FORMER police commander from Eastbourne has taken up the role of District Commander for Wealden.

Chief Inspector Dick Coates takes over from Chief Inspector Julia Pope, who has taken up a role as Head of Neighbourhood Policing for Sussex Police, based at Headquarters.

Chief Inspector Coates, a keen runner and cyclist, has been with Sussex Police Force for 23 years and said, “I have previously been a District Commander in Eastbourne and am happy to be back.

“I am very much looking forward to serving and working with the local community again.

“I am committed to providing a quality service and by working with my partner agencies we will be responding to the local needs of the community.

“Over the coming months I will be out and about in Wealden with my colleagues meeting the public, partner agencies and looking at how we can address any areas of concern. I have an excellent team working with me.

“I will be continuing to put people first in Wealden and delivering a first class service.”

Chief Inspector Julia Pope said, “I wish the best for Dick in his new role.

“I look forward to using my skills and experience to benefit my post in the Neighbourhood Policing Team based at headquarters.

“I’m really looking forward to taking up the post and working closely with new colleagues and the opportunities this will bring.”
