You Raise Me Up, the Willingdon-based charity which provides practical, financial and emotional support to families who lose their children suddenly, has opened up a coffee shop and counselling centre at the top of the High Street in Polegate.
The opening was held on Friday and among those attending were families helped by the charity, set up by Fraser and Jane Brooks following the death of their daughter Megan just days before her 18th birthday four years ago.
A pink tree with all the names of the young people the charity has helped and designed by Tom Buttle takes pride of place in the shop, which was refurbished free of charge by Eastbourne builders, Henty Building Services. An archway of pink and black balloons was supplied by Paperlane in Hampden Park.
The charity was also presented with a cheque at the opening from local police officers through the Police Property Act Fund. The charity’s sole purpose is to raise funds to support families that have suffered the loss of a child aged 16-25.
