THE HUNT is on to find a name for a bear which will be the mascot for a group of firemen embarking on a charity scooter ride around the British Isles.

Members of Green Watch from Eastbourne Fire Station are setting off on a 1,000-mile trip next May and have recently been given a teddy bear by the Eastbourne Mothercare store.

The teddy is the 50th birthday celebration bear for Mothercare and was donated by staff and manager Andy Brown.

The firefighters, called the Blazing Saddles, have decided to use the bear as their fundraising mascot and would like children from around Eastbourne to get involved in naming him before they take him on their charity scooter ride.

Entries should be sent to Green Watch, Eastbourne Fire Station, Whitley Road, BN22 8LA, or emailed to Robert.Newton@esfrs.org

The prize for the winning entry will be picked by Eastbourne’s chief Fire Officer in January 2012 and will be a VIP fun packed morning visit to Green Watch at Eastbourne Fire Station.

It will be arranged for a time after the fund raising event has taken place and at the end of the morning visit the winner will be presented with the bear to keep and look after – plus a certificate to say the bear has travelled all round the UK and helped to raise lots of much need funds for the Firefighter’s Charity and Clic Sargent which helps children with cancer and leukaemia.

The scooter ride starts on May 26 next year when 14 firefighters and a support team will start their journey which will take them to England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
