Murals of musical legends on empty shops in Langney Road will be celebrated with a street party on Sunday (July 14).
The murals, painted on empty shops in one of the town’s most depreived areas, were comissioned by Eastbourne Can and painted by local artist Clare Hackney-Ring.
Clare painted them over the winter months and they have been enjoyed by passers-by since the spring. Now the warmer weather has arrived, everyone involved in the murals is helping to organise a street party
The event will be kicked off by Eastbourne Djembe Drummers.
The entertainment will continue with young talent from Bourne, Ratton School, & the YMCA Charlie’s Devonshire Music Group.
There will be cool dance by Bourne Academy Street Dance Team, & a performance from Alice in Wonderland from their Musical Theatre Group.
Clare said, “You are invited to come and join us for this family event full of food, fun, arts and crafts, games, music, dancing and laughter, to celebrate the completion of my mural Musical Legends.”
The street party is being supported by The Big Local, part of the National Lottery, which recently granted the Devonshire area a £1million grant.
The event will opened by eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd and Mayor of Eastbourne Mike Thompson.
There will then be a packed program of entertainment.
Clare added, “We will be amazed by the skills of the young Circus Monkeys, who will also be teaching circus skills throughout the afternoon.”
There will be activities for children and the YMCA Charlie’s will be running an art and crafts table for all.Big Local will be helping by providing free refreshments and talking to the community .People are asked to bring their own food to share with others on the day. It will be held by the murals, in Langney Road at the junction with Seaside, between 2pm and 5pm.
The weather forecast is warm and sunny but in the case of bad weather, the party will be held in Leaf Hall Community Centre, 51 Seaside Road.
