Callenders Restaurant in Hailsham was the place to be last week when the Ropemaker Theatre Company presented its second murder mystery night with Firm Foundations.

RTC’s John Wilders, who played detective inspector Long-John from the Colombo school of dirty macs, had his work cut out trying to solve the mystery of who killed nerd Tristan Nitwit, a member of the Firm Foundations’ sales team. Other dubious Firm Foundations’ characters who fell under the detective inspector’s scrutiny were the unlikely named Nicolas Von Leiderhosen, Jock Strapp and Lacey Basque, played by volunteer diners in between meal courses.

RTC’s Linda Francis played Fanny Uptight, a professional spinster who loved a drink, adding additional humour to the evening’s mystery mayhem of red herrings, clues, missed cues, fluffed lines and dressing up.

The worthy winners of the evening were The Tristanites from Paydens Chemists, in Hailsham’s high street. They were presented with a framed certificate, a meal for four at Callenders and bottles of wine.
