ALMOST 200 budding athletes took to the field of West Rise Infants for the school’s annual sports day.
Every pupil at the Chaffinch Road school took part with events ranging from the usual running and throwing to the more quirky egg and spoon and sack races - clearly still a staple of the school sports day.
Grouped in their classes, the youngsters were given prizes for finishing first, second or third, and a spokesman for the school said every child had done West Rise proud.
Chris Brook, secretary, said, “Thankfully the weather stayed dry and the children had a great day. They had been looking forward to it for a long time and loved it.”
However, the highlight of the day was undoubtedly the parents race - with pupils enthusiastically cheering on their mum or dad. There were certainly bragging rights on offer there,” added Mrs Brook.
“Our thanks to parents who helped and, of course, teachers and teaching assistants who helped organise and run the day.”
