Eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd officially opened the refurbished box office and new tourist information centre at the Royal Hippodrome Theatre in Seaside Road on Monday.
The theatre this year celebrates its 130th anniversary and the relocation of the Eastbourne Hospitality Association (EHA) and opening of a tourist facility at the theatre gives the venue multi use to help secure its longevity.
The new Tourist Information Centre will initially open between 9.30am and 1.30pm, Mondays to Fridays.
Stephen Lloyd MP said, “It was such a delight to open the new Royal Hippodrome box office. The EHA has done a fantastic job since taking a more active role in the Hippodrome. I know they will make it work in a way its lacked for years. Now we have to help them by going to this summer’s variety shows.”
The RHT is the oldest theatre in Eastbourne and has been home to the annual Summer Variety show which opened on April 29 and runs every Tuesday and Wednesday until October (save for certain dates – check when booking) at 8.15pm.
This year’s show is produced by “Trap Door Productions” and features top comedian Al Reed. Trap Door is the professional offshoot of Eastbourne’s long-established Rattonians.
A new management team officially took over the running of the venue in April and have commissioned a varied programme of one-night specials which kick off with the Real Thing tomorrow (Saturday).
