SEAFORD MP Norman Baker enjoyed a visit to Newlands School where he met new headteacher Mandy Johannson.
During his time at the school in Eastbourne Road Mr Baker spoke with staff and pupils about the school’s community focus.
During the visit he was joined by Lord Maclennan, a director of Beaconhouse Educational Services, who owns the school.
Mr Baker met with Year Three and Four students who are currently having fun studying the Egyptians and saw a rehearsal by Year 7 students entered for this year’s Eastbourne Festival.
The visit was also an opportunity for the MP to see the school’s nursery provision and meet with some children, parents and staff.
Mr Baker said, “Community engagement is always important, particularly with schools, and I was pleased with what I saw at Newlands.
“Opening up parts of their grounds to the local community, for the benefit of the local community, is certainly a move that I welcome.”
