More gas pipe work at railway station

MORE work to renew gas pipes take place in Eastbourne town centre during the summer.

Recent works in Diesel Alley, which saw buses diverted along Gildredge Road, sparked anger among traders and after a flurry of complaints, Southern Gas Works completed Phase 1 of the project to give traders a much-needed boost for the Easter and Royal Wedding holidays.

This week the company announced it needs to complete the second phase of its works between July and September in time for resurfacing work in Terminus Road at its junction with Grove Road by East Sussex County Council.

Phase 2 will take eight weeks and be outside Eastbourne Railway Station in the eastbound carriageway up to the roundabout in front of the Central Library.

There will be lane closures in small sections of the road and, unlike last time, the traffic lights at Gildredge Road, won’t be affected.

After those works are completed, the third phase will begin in the bus lane from the east side of the Gildredge Pub to Cornfield Road.
