St Wilfrid’s Hospice is calling all its male supporters to join the Mayor of Eastbourne and dress in frocks for the charity’s Dame for a Laugh fundraiser.
The event, which will see the men parade through Eastbourne town centre, aims to raise the vital funds to put beds in the new hospice currently being completed down near Cross Levels Way.
Mayor of Eastbourne Cllr Mike Thompson will be joining the many hospice supporters swapping their trousers for skirt on Saturday August 10.
Mary Lacey, fundraising director at the hospice, said, “We wanted to create a unique event that got people talking.
“Dame for a Laugh has certainly got tongues wagging and we hope participants will have a giggle whilst making a real difference to our patients by raising the essential funding required to furnish the additional ten bedrooms in our new hospice.
“We hope to see lots of you participating in this exciting event.”
The charity has, for the first time, launched a direct appeal to the local community to raise funds to equip 10 of the 20 bedrooms in its new building.
The hospice, which only receives 15 per cent of its funding from the NHS, needs the funds to cover the cost of beds, medical equipment and chairs.
The new hospice has been built in response to the growing demand for its services within the community.
The walk is five kilometres and will begin at the Saffrons Community Centre in Compton Place Road. Registration opens at noon before heading in to the town centre.
St Wilfrid’s is hoping hundreds will join the event to raise much-needed funds.
Ms Lacey added, “It will be a sight that is sure to attract a great deal of attention and raise awareness of the hospice and its vital work within the community.”
Participants will be treated to a warm up session hosted by a team of glamorous drag queens who will be visiting from Brighton.
