McCarthy and Stone to give public exhibition

A developer is seeking to turn a former garage into a block of assisted living apartments for the elderly.

McCarthy and Stone wants to redevelop the old Caffyns garage in London Road - and is holding an exhibition so residents can find out more.

This takes place on Tuesday July 16, at Hailsham Parish Church Lounge, Vicarage Road, Hailsham, BN27 1BL, between 3pm and 7.30pm.

The plans propose the introduction of what the developer terms as Later Living apartments, incorporating a mixture of one and two bedroom units alongside facilities which includes a residents’ lounge and office for the house manager.

McCarthy and Stone claim benefits will incluce: much needed specialist retirement housing provided for local people, sustainable location, close to public transport links, shops and services, attractive, high-quality design, efficient use of a redundant site, landscaped communal gardens, support for the local economy and ample private car parking on-site for residents and visitors.

A representative from McCarthy and Stone said, “We’ve already spent time carefully researching the architecture and character of the local area but we need to ensure that what we build is what our customers, as well as the local community, would like to see in Hailsham.”

“To ensure the local community has been kept informed of the proposals, McCarthy and Stone held a series of individual meetings with immediate residents.

“It was a good opportunity for residents and stakeholders to ask questions about the proposed development.

“Our project team will be at the forthcoming exhibition to answer questions and listen to feedback on what we’ve done so far and the comments we receive will help us tailor our proposals into something people will want to see, enjoy and call home.”

If you aren’t able to attend the exhibition or would like further information, there is a dedicated freephone information line on 0800 298 7040.
