A STUDENT from Eastbourne is in the running for the Young Handbag Designer of the Year at the Clothes Show Live at the NEC this week.
Marianne Smith, pictured, a Year 10 pupil at Eastbourne College, designed her own clutch bag for the party season and has been shortlisted as one of the top ten designs.
She has landed a VIP pass for the Clothes Show Live at the NEC next week when the judging will take place.
Every year the Clothes Show Live, the world’s largest catwalk show, invites budding designers to submit their ideas for the perfect bag.
All Year 10 textiles pupils at the college spent the first half of this term working on designs for the prestigious national competition.
It was during half-term that Marianne got a call to say she had been chosen as one of the top ten finalists.
The competition brief was to design a bag that encapsulated the glitz and glamour of the Christmas party season and yet was practical and able to accommodate every girl’s vital party essentials: make-up, phone, money, camera etc.
The young designers were also asked to explain their inspiration and choice of materials in no more than 200 words.
Marianne is now looking forward to the event on Thursday, December 6.
A college spokesperson said, “Billed as the ultimate girls’ day out, the Clothes Show Live features more than 500 shopping brands, celebrity presenters, live performances, fast-paced catwalk shows and inspirational hair and beauty demonstrations, all of which will only strengthen Marianne’s love of design and fashion.”
