Groups, organisations and charities can now apply for a share in the thousands of pounds raised at the last Eastbourne Half Marathon.
“Possibly the best part of sponsoring the Eastbourne Half Marathon is the give-away,” said Mike Reid of Reid+Dean, which is one of the organisers of the popular event.
“We have thoroughly enjoy going to sports clubs, schools and similar organisations to present cheques which will make a real difference to them.”
The sums of money range usually from £200-500 and are donated to make something happen which not otherwise be affordable.
Examples include boxing equipment, sensory gardens, equipment for a school bird club, grants towards summer activities for under-privileged children, a pensioners’ party and climbing and camping equipment for scouts.
The organisers are now inviting applications which must be for a special project.
People wanting to apply for money from the pot should send a letter or email describing why the money is needed and the benefit it will bring.
It will be considered for inclusion in the scheme.
Applications can be sent to Reid+Dean, 43-45 Cornfield Road, Eastbourne, BN21 4QG or email email@example.com.
The application for entries is Monday July 7.
Hundreds of people took part in the half marathon in March this year.
Sponsorship always plays a major part and in addition to people raising money for their own favourite charities, around £12-15,000 is generated and donated every year. There are always two headline beneficiaries and smaller donations are also made to help sports clubs, school and societies fulfil a special project. In 2014 The run supported Chestnut Tree Children’s Hospice and Save the DGH.
