A 46-YEAR-OLD man has appeared in court accused of having indecent images of children.
David Wood, an unemployed man who used to live in Bexhill Road, Eastbourne, appeared in custody at Hove Crown Court on Friday (August 24).
Wood has been charged with offences relating to indecent images of children. The case was adjourned to September 7 when a plea and case management hearing will take place. He was remanded in custody.
Wood had been arrested by detectives from the Paedophile On Line Investigation Team (POLIT) of Sussex Police following the execution of a warrant at his home address in August 2010.
He was released on police bail and later charged with 12 offences on June 20 this year. The charges were five counts of distribution of indecent images of children and seven counts of making indecent images of children.
Wood initially appeared in custody at Eastbourne Magistrates Court on June 21 where he was remanded in custody.
The charges do not involve allegations of any contact offending with children, either directly or online, and there is no evidence that any of the images are of local children.
Wood had left his Eastbourne address earlier this year and had been staying in rented accommodation in Southampton for several months. He is also known to have visited the Portsmouth area.
A Sussex Police spokesman said, “We will always take seriously reports of alleged offending of this type, whether they come from law enforcement or the public.
“Anyone who has concerns or information about possible offences can contact us in confidence at any time via 101, asking for the Sussex Paedophile Online Investigation Team.”
