AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after a diver died following a trip off the coast of Eastbourne.
David Noblett, who was diving in water south of Beachy Head, suffered decompression sickness which is known as divers’ disease.
The 51-year-old from Luton was airlifted from the Channel Diver, a 36ft catamaran , to St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester.
He was placed in a decompression chamber to gradually bring his oxygen levels back to a normal level but died the following day.
Sussex Police’s specialist search unit is helping with the investigation which is not believed to be suspicious.
A spokesman from Channel Diver said, “It is absolutely tragic. We think he had a massive heart attack but no one knows at this stage.”
An inquest is due to be held into Mr Noblett’s death which took place on October 15.
