Man crushed by coach is named

A MAN killed when he was crushed by the coach he was working on outside a seafront hotel has been named.

Police were called to Royal Parade in Eastbourne at 10.45am yesterday (Thursday) following reports a man had suffered serious injuries while working on a stationary coach.

Sussex Air Ambulance and South East Coast Ambulance Service were called to the incident by the Majestic Hotel but the man, who went into cardiac arrest, was later confirmed dead at the scene.

The Herald understands the man is Daniel Haffenden, director of DK Tyres, based in Cavendish Avenue.

It is believed he had been changing a tyre on the coach. A DK Tyres work van could be seen at the scene as well as a Shearings Holiday coach.

The road remained closed for several hours while police were at the scene.

Police said the Health and Safety Executive is involved in the investigation.

A spokeswoman for the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said, “The HSE is investigating this alongside the police.

“Sussex Police has made us aware of the incident.”
