Man charged in connection with Eastbourne rape

A man has been charged in connection with the rape of a woman on Eastbourne seafront last year.

The victim was walking on the upper promenade on Sunday October 19 2014 when she was attacked by a man at around 2am.

Mani Kurian, 50, of Eridge Road, Eastbourne has been charged with rape and appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Friday July 31. He has been remanded and is due to appear at Lewes Crown Court on August 20.

In a statement Sussex Police said, “The victim, a 21-year-old woman, was walking on the upper promenade at around 2am on Sunday, October 19 when a man she had not met before pulled her onto the lower promenade where he raped her.”
