Police investigating a report that a ring had been stolen from an elderly Polegate resident have arrested a man.
The woman, in her late eighties, was at home in Eastern Avenue, Polegate, at about 5pm on Friday 15 March when a man called and entered her home saying he was interested in valuable items.
After he left a short while later, the woman noticed that a ring belonging to her was missing. Officers arrested a 27-year old Chiddingly man, who was interviewed and released on police bail until April 12 while enquiries continue. The ring has not been recovered.
Meanwhile police are reminding residents, especially the elderly, to be cautious about cold callers.
Detective Sergeant Andrew Harbour of the East Sussex Priority Crime Team said; “Do not allow anyone into your home, especially cold callers, unless you are completely satisfied that they have a genuine reason for calling. If in doubt keep them out and let us know via 101, or via 999 if they are still present or nearby.”
