Man arrested after major police operation in Eastbourne

A man was arrested in Eastbourne on Sunday afternoon (July 24) after a major operation involving the police helicopter and several officers.

Police had been looking for the man in connection with an assault alleged to have happened in the town on July 13.

A Sussex Police spokesperson said, “The man was reported to be in Rotherfield Avenue at 4.44pm, but ran off as police attended the location.

“A National Police Air Service helicopter was called in to assist with the search for him and he was arrested on suspicion of assault in Milfoil Drive a few minutes after 6pm.

“He was detained overnight and questioned before being released without charge.”
