A NEWSAGENT is looking forward to getting a little more sleep after waking up at 5am every morning for the past 23 years.
Husband and wife team Malcolm and Irene Dixon of Dixon’s newsagent in Whitley Road are retiring and handing over their much-loved local business to a new owner.
Malcolm told the Herald they have enjoyed every minute of their time behind the counter which has seen them put in a huge number of hours over the years.
He said, “We’ve seen families growing up around us, we’ve seen children getting older and then seen them pregnant, then seen their children grow up and some of them have become our paperboys and papergirls.
“There’s always been a great community around here and everyone has been very friendly to us.
“We’d like to thank all our customers and friends for all their kindness and making our 23 years of trading such a happy time.
“We wish them all the best and hope they continue to support the new owners.”
The new owners will carry on the business and have also promised longer opening hours.
Malcolm said he hopes to enjoy a few lie-ins if his body-clock will let him and the couple are planning to see more of the country during their well-earned retirement.
