Making a splash for charity

WITH the Swimathon Weekend 2012 just around the corner, Wave Leisure is encouraging people in Seaford to make a splash for charity.

Residents across the Lewes district are being asked to join in the fun at the different centres including Seaford Head Pool and Lewes Leisure Centre.

They are two of several pools across the UK taking part in the Swimathon Weekend from April 27 - 29.

The Swimathon Weekend is open to all ages and abilities and people can take part in the ultimate Swimathon 5k for Marie Curie Cancer Care or swim a short distance as part of the Big Splash Team Mile for Sport Relief.

People signing up will receive a British Gas Swimfit training plan to prepare you for the challenge. People who prefer to cheer on from the sidelines can still do their bit by sponsoring local people who are taking part by going to ‘sponsor a swimmer’ on swimathon.org.

Peter Crowley, managing director of Wave Leisure said, “The Swimathon Weekend 2012 is the perfect event to train for, and participate in, with your friends and family. You can set yourself a challenge to work towards, as well as raising money for charity.”

The money raised by taking on the Swimathon Distance Challenges for Marie Curie Cancer Care will help support Marie Curie Nurses who provide free nursing care to people with terminal cancer and other illnesses, in the place of their choice. Money raised by the public for the Big Splash Mile for Sport Relief will be spent by Comic Relief to help people living incredibly tough lives; both here, at home in the UK, and across the world’s poorest countries.
