THE FIVE members of Eastbourne Macmillan Cancer Support fundraising committee have raised an impressive £120,075 since they formed in March 2006.
The group is celebrating after bringing in £50,000 in 2010 alone. Members raised the cash by holding events, collections and working with local groups and businesses.
Money raised by the committee is currently helping to pay for two Macmillan nurses specialising in skin cancer and head and neck cancers at Eastbourne DGH.
Around £100,000 funds one of these nurses for two years, providing vital emotional and practical support to cancer patients in Eastbourne.
Acting committee chairman Ian Griffith said, “I would like to say a big thanks to all the committee members and all volunteers who give so generously of their time to help with our fundraising. We are really pleased to have reached this milestone in such a short space of time.”
The committee has been praised by Jenny Tregoning, fundraising manager for Macmillan in Sussex.
She said, “We owe huge thanks to the efforts of Ian, Jane, Alan, Ruth and Trisha of the Eastbourne committee.
“This fantastic achievement is a real testament to their dedication and commitment to helping people affected by cancer in the area.
“They all work so hard and considering there are only five of them this really is an incredible achievement.
“If anyone wants to get involved with the Eastbourne committee they will receive a warm welcome, as well as knowing they are doing their bit to help local people with cancer.”
