EASTBOURNE volunteers who have given hundreds of thousands to charity have received prestigious awards at a special ceremony.
The volunteers for Macmillan Cancer Support were presented with their awards by the director of fundraising at Macmillan as part of the charity’s Volunteers’ Week celebrations.
Many of the volunteers have been involved for many years in raising money, carrying out administration or working directly with people affected by cancer.
Among the winners was Ian Griffith, who is the acting chairman of the Eastbourne committee, who last year helped to raise more than £60,000 in 2010.
Ian has been volunteering for Macmillan for more than 20 years and was awarded the platinum service award.
Also honoured was Ruth Morris from the Eastbourne committee for more than five years’ service.
Rob Moon, Macmillan Cancer Support’s area fundraising manager, said, “Between them, these volunteers have done everything from holding coffee mornings and helping out in the fundraising office, to getting local companies on board and giving cancer talks in the local community.”
