A LORRY driver had a miraculous escape after he lost control of his vehicle and ploughed into railings on Wednesday morning.
The metal railings pierced the driver’s cab but he walked away from the accident on Eastbourne Road uninjured.
The drama unfolded shortly after 6am when the driver, delivering to Superdrug in Eastbourne, lost control and crashed into the railings which are at the busy main route’s junction with Church Street at Willingdon.
The road was closed for more than three hours as a recovery truck removed the vehicle and highways engineers removed debris from the road.
Police officers diverted traffic from the Sunrise roundabout around the back of Willingdon and out onto the main road at Coopers Hill.
