Eastbourne photographer Sarah Carmody is raising money in the memory of her late mother Judy through a loom band challenge.

Sarah is challenging anybody to help create the biggest loom band by encouraging people to make and donate them, along with a cash donation of whatever amount they can afford.

Donated sections will be added to the main band and all proceeds from donations will be go to Eastbourne charity, St Wilfrid’s Hospice.

“I lost my mum two years ago and St Wilfrid’s looked after her really well,” the mother-of-two said.

“People who have lost someone themselves are doing it to express their gratitude to the hospice in a fun way.”

There will be a loom band picnic on Sunday August 31 in Gildredge Park next to Gildredge Manor.

People can bring their loom bands along to the picnic where the final measurement will be announced.

Sarah’s two daughters, Amelie and Alice, who came up with the idea of the loom band challenge, have also made a box which is now in St Wilfrid’s Hospice reception.

People can take their bands donations direct to the hospice if they are unable to attend the picnic.

Sarah has been raising money ever since her mum passed away. She ran Race for Life for cancer research in 2012 and managed to raise nearly £5,000.

“It’s a good amount and I think she would be really proud,” she added.

The Judy Carmody Tribute Fund was set up in April 2013 and has raised £4,632.78 to date.

Judy struggled with ovarian cancer and Sarah wants to raise much-needed money for the hospice, which she says offers such fantastic support for many families.
