WAS IT Spider-Man? Was it an extreme sports thrill-seeker or a rather brave Fathers for Justice protestor?

On Tuesday (June 21) office workers and town centre residents were shocked to see a lone climber scaling the spire of St Saviour’s Church in South Street.

The hardy soul was actually a specialist contractor and had been hired by the church to check out the condition of the top of the spire.

Father Jeffrey Gunn said, “The church originally had a weather vane on the spire and we are considering the possibility of replacing the cross with a new weather vane.

“No one has been up there for the past 30 years and we wanted to investigate the structural condition of the top of the spire.”
