The Local & Loved 2014 campaign is now underway with members of the public being asked to nominate their favourite independent businesses in Eastbourne.

The competition is run by The Best of Eastbourne, an organisation aimed at making life better for everyone in the community and supporting local businesses and charities.

David Ruddle, who is behind the group, said, “Local, independent businesses are vital to Eastbourne. They are the life blood of our High Street and town.

“They provide the variety, choice, personal service and, most importantly, employment so are vital to keep Eastbourne vibrant.

“We are lucky enough to have some amazing independent businesses in Eastbourne and it’s about time we raised their profile.

“The Local & Loved Business Awards 2014 isn’t another opportunity for industry heads to pat themselves on the back. These awards are voted for the public, the consumer as we believe their opinion counts most.

“This is an opportunity for everybody to show their appreciation for all the hard work that local businesses, and the people behind them, do to maintain local pride and help grow the local economy

“Although The Local & Loved Business Awards is a national campaign, it aims are to raise the profile and awareness of great local businesses and prove that community spirit and engagement can make a real positive impact on Eastbourne’s economy.

“If enough people vote for our great businesses we may even gain national recognition, putting Eastbourne firmly on the map.”

Launched on February 1 and running until midnight on Valentine’s Day, locals can vote for any businesses they love by visiting www.thebestof.co.uk/vote.

The results will be displayed every day on the “love-o-meter” at www.thebestof.co.uk/love-o-meter until February 13, with the winners being announced on February 17.

Voters will also be put into a daily prize draw where they can win £100 to spend with a local thebestof business.

During the next two weeks ‘thebestofEastbourne’ will be raising the profile of great local businesses through Twitter (@David_Ruddle #localandloved) and Facebook as well as around town through branded campaign material.

“There’s nothing like quirky photos and videos to really show the human side of a business,” said David. “We were inundated with some amazing pictures last year. I’m looking forward to sharing this year with everyone.”

Last year Paperlane in Hampden Park won the title of the most Local & Loved in Eastbourne. The shop in Brassey Parade received the most votes and reviews and owner Sam Chapman said, “It is very touching and a real honour to see how much our customers value what we do.”

The Farm at Friday Street came second with Will’s Restaurant Bar in Hyde Gardens taking third place.
