Plans by South East Water to lay a new 1.3 kilometre pipeline along a number of roads in Wannock are being put on show for residents and motorists.

The 11-month scheme to increase the amount of water pumped into the area, will be on display on Thursday July 3 at Willingdon Community School Hall, Broad Road, between 4pm and 6.45pm.

With a number of roads in Wannock due to be affected including Broad Road, Farmlands Avenue and Farmlands Way, the company is asking people to attend the exhibition to talk to staff and familiarise themselves now with the schedule which is due to start on 24 July.

Chris Love from South East Water said, “With the population of Eastbourne growing we need to pump more water into the area which is why new pipelines such as this are so vital.

“The new £900,000 pipeline forms part of our five year programme in which we are investing £390 million to ensure clean, safe water continues to be delivered to all our customers.

“The pipeline we are installing is extremely large, 400mm in diameter and therefore needs large specialist equipment to lift each section into place. As a result of this and the high number of other utility services within the road we need to make sure that it is done in the safest way possible. Therefore, to ensure the safety of the public and our contractor a series of road closures will be required.”

When closures are in operation diversion routes will be clearly signed and businesses will remain open as usual.

Mr Love said, “We are keen to speak to local residents and talk through the programme with them and answer any questions they may have. I would like to apologise in advance for the disruption this work will cause, but hope residents, motorists and the local community understands the long term benefits this scheme will deliver.”

The first phase starts on July 24 when Broad Road will be closed between the Farmlands Avenue junction and the Eastbourne Road/A2270 junction until September 20. Visit www.southeastwater.co.uk/wannock for details
