Apart from strawberries and cream, Martina Navratilova and men in shorts with nice legs, my knowledge on the subject of tennis is limited to say the least. But that is all set to change in preparation for the Aegon International Tennis Tournament at Devonshire Park next month. The tournament is 40 this year and while the last time I saw 40 was on a door, I am getting into the spirit of things to celebrate the anniversary by learning to play tennis with the help of the LTA, Francis Mackie at Tennis in the Park at Gildredge Park and Greg Rusedski. Yes, you read right. Rusedski is taking me under his wing at Roehampton soon to make sure I am up to the task of playing on court at the tournament in June. This week got off to a flying start with Francis at Gildredge Park and I will be having regular lessons there and writing progress reports in the run up to the tournament. Now I know one end of the racquet from another, and after exercising muscles I didn’t know I had, it looks like it’s going to be fun.
