TJ Hughes, Blue Arrow, Ellis and Hailsham Pavilion are just some of the employers that have recently benefitted from The Leonardo da Vinci Mobility Scheme, a partnership between the Leo Von Klenze Schule in Germany and Sussex Downs College.
A key part of the exchange programme sees the college arrange week-long work placements in the local area for the German students.
Interns offer employers a strong working knowledge of the English language and a wealth of experience from their home country.
In return, placements allow the interns to fully immerse themselves in British work culture. Blue Arrow believes it to be an excellent way of providing office awareness and experience for people from a variety of backgrounds.
They, like all the employers who receive students on this programme, are full of praise for the interns, saying, “Andrea quickly understood the requirements and desired outcomes of the project and seamlessly integrated into our office team.”
Local building contractors, Ellis, has been involved with the Sussex Downs College International Programme for a number of years, providing work placements within their busy administration department.
Jane Summerbell, office manager, said, “The administrative team and processes we have in place are extremely important in assisting our business and all the students from the International programme have proved to be of a very high calibre, keen and reliable with excellent interpersonal skills.
“We look forward to continuing hosting students in the future.”
As well as organising the week-long work placements for the students, Sussex Downs College arranged accommodation with host families in Eastbourne and classes at the college, to fully immerse the students in local culture.
