A new tourism passport is being launched to boost business in Eastbourne.

The discount passport has been organised by the Eastbourne Hospitality Association and follows in the footsteps of cities such as London and Barcelona.

The passport will give people discounts to attractions, restaurants, bars and cafes.

And, unlike other towns, visitors will not have to pay for the passport – it will be given out by EHA accommodation providers to guests free of charge.

One hundred thousand of them will be printed in the first trial run this summer, which also marks the 90th anniversary of the EHA which represents more than 200 hotels, guesthouses, self-catering and hospitality trade members on important issues which arise in the town’s economy.

Businesses which accept the passport will have the passport logo [pictured right] displayed in their windows.

Darren Weir, chairman of the EHA, said, “We are very excited about this new offer in the resort.

“It will require hospitality businesses to get on board. Hotels will see it as an extra benefit to be able to offer guests, and the discount providers should see it as an opportunity to increase footfall and join an association that can represent their interests. “At the moment individual hotels and guesthouses already recommend particular places but in my experience the guest will always opt for the one who is offering a discount of some sort.

“Certainly once the passport is launched my guesthouse will only recommend restaurants and cafes in the passport because I am a believer in businesses helping each other.

“It is through teamwork in difficult economic times that the EHA and its members have been able to ensure that Eastbourne is still a good tourism destination.”

Applications for businesses to join the passport scheme will close on July 2 so any owners of cafés, restaurants, pubs or attractions who want to be part of the scheme should call 726756 (9.30am—1.30pm) or e-mail eastbourne@eastbournehotels.org.uk.
