Advanta’s resident of the month for March was awarded to Christine Haniver who, despite having a full time professional career as a lawyer, manages to find time to volunteer for a variety of good causes in the Eastbourne area.
Eastbourne resident Christine attends the soup kitchen at the St John Ambulance base every Sunday, preparing soup and pasta to those in need. She collects the donated bread from the bakers and drops off any surplus to Matthew 25 Mission on a Monday morning for them to use. Christine is the founder of an annual business community rounders match which raises funds for St Wilfrid’s Hospice.
Christine is also the Chairperson for ‘Alone at Christmas’ where she gives up her own Christmas Day in order to serve dinner and entertain those who would otherwise be alone at this festive time. Her work brings her in touch with the elderly and she is involved with the local hospital, making visits and helping fight for the rights of the elderly.
The Resident of the Month Award was introduced to recognise unsung heroes in the local community and is jointly sponsored by Advanta Chartered Accountants and the Eastbourne Herald. Yiotis Diomedou was delighted to present Christine with the award, saying, “Christine’s energy, enthusiasm and caring manner towards the Eastbourne community is an inspiration for everyone.”
As part of her prize Christine will also receive a complimentary meal for two at top local restaurant Ridgways in Meads. To nominate someone who you think deserves the Resident of the Month Award, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 411222.
