A Sussex farmer is predicting an early bluebell season in 2014, despite the storms and heavy rains which started the year.

John McCutchan, of Bates Green Farm near Hailsham, is opening the stunning Arlington Bluebell Woods early this year, from April 10 to May 18, after noticing that the white wood anemones are at least two weeks earlier than last year. “Mother nature has a way of balancing things out and I’ve seen signs that not only are they coming early, but I believe we may see one of the most spectacular bluebell displays ever this year,” he said. The Arlington Bluebell Walk, which takes in three working farms, has been delighting countryside lovers and raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for Sussex charities since it first opened in 1972.
