A stowaway spider found in a bunch of bananas has been rehomed at Drusillas.

The RSPCA were called when a South American tarantula – a Peruvian Green Velvet – was found in a shipment of fruit delivered to the Horsham area.

The South American tarantula was discovered within a shipment of bananas delivered to a food store in the Horsham / Crawley area. RSPCA inspector Tony Woodley collected the three-inch arachnid from a local veterinary surgery and delivered it to Drusillas.

The zoo’s spider expert, Angela Hale, said, “It is always very exciting to have a tarantula brought in by the RSPCA.”
