Road repair works to start in Alfriston village on Monday

A major road repair scheme will begin in Alfriston on Monday (February 18).

Residents and businesses in the area will benefit from the East Sussex County Council project which will see old and worn pipe beneath the village’s High Street that drains surface water from the road being replaced. The whole stretch of road will then be resurfaced. One hundred and eighty metres of pipe is being replaced between Star Lane and Dene Car Park.

The repairs and resurfacing are due to take seven weeks to complete – partly because there are several other pipes and wires in the ground that need to be worked around. The village will be closed to through traffic and a diversion route set up for drivers. Throughout the works businesses will be open as usual. Working hours will be from 7am – 5pm and, where necessary, extra hours will be carried out and weekends for the scheme to be finished as quickly as possible.

The county council said it would do its best to give residents access to their homes and is encouraging people to discuss any issues with staff on site and for people to check for any alterations to bus services during the works.
