Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a woman was bitten by a dog in Eastbourne.

The woman was walking to her car parked on Austen Walk, at about 4.50pm on August 27, when a dog walker approached. The dog jumped up at the woman, then bit her on the hand.

The owner, who saw what had happened, left without saying anything.

The dog is described as a boxer or pitbull terrier type dog and the owner was described as a white man, in his 40s or 50s with stubble. He was also wearing a yellow and brown lumberjack style jacket.

PC Ed Faulkner said, “Owners have responsibilities to keep their dog under control, including using a muzzle where appropriate.

“This incident is worrying as the owner didn’t stop and talk to the woman about the fact his dog had bitten someone.

“We are conducting enquiries into this matter, and we would be grateful for any help people can give to identify the dog, or the owner.

“Anyone with information is urged to contact 101@sussex.pnn.police or call 101 quoting reference 1377 27/8 or alternatively Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 to give information anonymously.”
