Sussex Police has launched an investigation after an arsonist started a fire outside a block of flats on Pevensey Road last night.

Firefighters were called to the scene at around 11.30pm on Wednesday (January 22) to discover someone had poured accelerant in front of the building and then lit the fuel.

Residents had managed to put out the fire with water before the crews arrived and although they were shook up, nobody was injured.

The incident damaged carpet in the entrance hall of the three-storey building.

Sussex Police are now investigating the incident and anyone with information is asked to call 101.
