Police donation helps older peopleto come together and learn to cook

The workshop, which is being held by local charity Education Futures Trust, has been made possible thanks to a £250 donation from the Police Properties Fund.

The fund resdistributes the proceeds of criminal activity to well deserving projects in the community.

Participants will sit down as a group to enjoy the meal, and then try different activities such as playing games, craft activities or taking part in a discussion.

Carole Dixon, Chief Executive of the Education Futures Trust, said: “These workshops are aimed at elderly people with a focus on reducing loneliness and social isolation, as well as building resilience.”

Carole added: “‘We are delighted to receive the donation to support our work. At times of real hardship, we would like to work closely with local residents to reduce their isolation. We really do appreciate the support for the bid from our local PCSO, Faye, who nominated us for the donation.”

The first workshop will take place at St Matthews Church Hall in Silverhill on Monday April 18 from 11-1pm. Anyone interested in taking part should call Mel on 01424 722241.

Education Futures Trust is a charitable organisation which seeks to advance education for the public benefit in Hastings and Rother.

It aims to support the establishment, development and delivery of programmes, initiative and projects that will advance education and enable the participants to derive maximum benefit.

It supports the advancement of the aspirations of children and young people, their families and communities, using keyworkers and learning mentors to provide targeted support for children both in and out of the school environment. The charity enables people to learn through experience, in particular through opportunities that would not otherwise be available to them.

The Trust also aims to provide support in advancing the education and development of persons working in schools and education.

It provides access to innovative ways of learning, including through informal methods of education.
