Police are appealing for witnesses after a series of diesel thefts from lorries in Eastbourne.

Over the last two months almost 600 litres of fuel has been stolen from lorries parked in Maple Road on Birch Industrial Estate, most recently in the early hours of Thursday, July 31.

PC Jon Attfield, of Eastbourne neighbourhood policing team, said, “The targeted company only became aware of the thefts when they noticed spilt diesel next to one of the lorry fuel tanks. Drivers then checked fuel levels and discovered the losses.

“We would like to hear from anyone else who has experienced recent fuel thefts in Eastbourne or has any information.”

Officers are particularly keen to identify a white, dark-haired man with a blue people carrier, possibly a Vauxhall Zafira, who has been seen in the area and who they would like to speak to about the incidents.

Businesses are advised to be vigilant about fuel thieves and to report any incidents to police.

If you have any information please email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting reference 47140089037, call 101 or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
