A Polegate man is to appear in court after the latest round of drivers were charged with offences as part of Sussex Police’s drink-drive crackdown.

A total of seven motorists were charged this week, including Philip Turner of Porters Way, Polegate.

Turner, 37, was arrested at 11.25pm on December 18 after officers carried out a random check in Sevenoaks Road, Eastbourne.

He was charged with driving while unfit through drugs and released on bail to appear at Hastings Magistrates’ Court on March 26.

Each of the defendants was arrested in December and questioned but was charged with driving offences after answering their bail.

A total of 145 people have now been charged with offences as part of the December campaign. Seven drivers are still on bail.
