Sixty firefighters are battling to put out the flames ripping through the pier, which are being fanned by stiff sea breezes.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue was called at 3.13pm today (Wednesday, July 20).
Firefighters are attacking the fire from the coastal side of the building, from the beach and from underneath the Pier.
Reasonable progress is being made considering there are high winds – said a fire brigade spokesperson.
“We are being assisted by the Coastguard, the RNLI and Sussex Police. South East Coast Ambulance are also in attendance.
“We are not aware of any injuries or casualties.”
The spokesperson said there would be another update at 6.30pm.
