Eastbourne resident Les Jones will be cycling 1,200 miles from Eastbourne to Barcelona to raise funds for St Wilfrid’s Hospice.
The 61-year-old seriously took up cycling in December and is a member of Eastbourne Rovers Cycling Club, regularly attends spinning classes at David Lloyd and has been cycling more than 250 kilometres a week to prepare for the challenge which will see him cycle 55 miles every day.
Les will begin his challenge on Monday May 16 leaving from St Wilfrid’s Hospice at 10.30am before beginning the epic cycle from Eastbourne to Barcelona via Andorra. The journey also includes a very difficult climb of 2,400m across the Pyrenees during which Les will be travelling independently.
Les said, “This is a big challenge for me but is for a very worthy cause. My father passed away after suffering with cancer and whilst he didn’t receive care from the hospice I have huge sympathy for the work it does. I have already raised £2,500 and the generosity of people is testament to the great work of the hospice.”
Anyone wishing to sponsor Les can do so by visiting www.justgiving.com/Les-Jones-cycle1000miles or by texting LEZZ99£10 (£1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10) to Just Giving on 70070.
