New Ratton School headteacher Huxley Knox-Macaulay has started his new role –and says he’s enjoying every minute of it.

He joined the school three months earlier than planned in preparation for the 2014-15 academic year, which he says will be a crucial 12 months.

He comes from Hove Park School in Brighton & Hove, where he was deputy head and spent time as acting head and replaces David Linsell, who left at Christmas to join an academy group as regional director.

He has worked in leadership roles in both urban and coastal schools and started as a science teacher 22 years ago after working in finance.

“I have only been here three weeks and I am impressed by what I have seen. I am aware that Ratton has a unique reputation in Eastbourne, both for its Performing Arts provision and wider reputation as being a Good school, with strong values, aiming to be Outstanding.”

Huxley said that while the focus is clearly on Years 7-11, there is the bigger picture of a sixth form possibly opening in partnership with Cavendish.

“It is a very exciting time to come to Ratton,” he added. “My aim is clear – to enable all students to make outstanding progress in all areas of school life and be able to access world class opportunities in the future. I know that everyone in the school community believes that they have a part to play in this important journey.”
